Lillian Podolsky Turin, 1901-1988 |
Lillian Turin was born on June 2,
1901, the daughter of David and
Fanny Podolsky. She went to New
York University, receiving a degree in accountancy. She married Meyer Turin in 1924, and had two
children—Constance (Connie) in 1926 and George in 1930.
She
separated from Meyer in 1932 and was divorced from him in 1936. After the separation, she sought a job
in accountancy. Although it was
the depth of the Depression and she had never worked before, she quickly landed
a job as an accountant at Macy's.
She worked for the rest of her life, much of it as an accountant for and
then manager of Luxor Baths, a famed hotel and spa in midtown Manhattan, of which
her father was the principal owner and president. After her father's death in 1945, when the hotel was sold,
she held accountancy jobs in the real-estate industry until she was 85.
Following in her
father's footsteps, she was very active in Zionist affairs, particularly in
Hadassah.
She died in 1988 at
the age of 87.
